Just finished Road Through Wonderland and Now I’m reading LA Despair. Found a few discrepancies between the two. I figure Dawn Schillers is the truer account. Also, I could not believe that Sharon was attacked the night John and Dawn took off for Florida. She slayed the attacker/hired hit man with a meat hook. I recently found I think a Marie Claire article with Dawn saying that she found out Sharon was homeless in LA in the last few years and she took her back home with her and put her in a nursing home a few miles from her and now she is her guardian. Thought that was sweet. If you already posted this – forgive me – I have not been through your entire blog yet.

Yes, you will often find discrepancies, and sometimes it’s because the subject or witness changed their story, or info was taken from a friend of a friend by the author of one of those books. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for visiting.!

I am really intrigued by this case and the “magical period in L.A. culture and music”. That magical time and culture was really amazing. These people were a part of this amazing piece of American history. I am puzzled and probably need to read more about this, but someone said Ron Launius had committed 27 murders. I do not believe this at all because I believe Ron Launius was a guy with pretty good moral sensibilities. He was a charismatic guy who people liked. I think he may have killed one person and that was because of repeated bad drug deals from another base head. I think Ron was allergic to baseheads. I think Ron was a cool guy who got addicted to opiates and the foul world of heroin addiction turned Ron the wrong direction. I also think that since they were all in trouble from burning / shaking down other drug dealers, that they went for the Nash hit to get out of debt. When you sell $250,000 worth of Baking Soda, you are in trouble and totally out of control. A dealer in this position starts to look at any score as the last score. After here… Beach in Maui. Right? I was into drugs and I have met a lot of John Holmes types in my life. Baseheads are the most dangerous and precarious type of personality to have around you. Every time Ron Launius got into trouble it was because of a basehead. When he got caught smuggling in 1967 he was being led by a basehead, himself. Legalize drugs and this will not happen. Ron should have found treatment instead of Jail after Vietnam. We should not continue prohibition. Drug treatment, not jail for addicts. These people are our brothers and sisters, mothers, aunts and uncles. Stop the war on drugs.
