John Holmes' Films – After He Knew He Had AIDS
That is quite a list!
I think my friend’s parents used to have Saturday Night Beaver on VHS…

The Erotic Adventures of Dickman and Throbbin (1986)
IMDB Review:
John Holmes is Dickman and Tom Byron is Throbbin. Together they are a duo of superheros known as Sexcorcists that turn frigid women into sex-craving whores. This film is all about campy, corny fun just like the old “Batman” TV show that it parodies. Sadly, all the scenes without Holmes or Byron isn’t as good. Needless to say, this film while not being John Holmes best that I’ve seen, is still enjoyable enough. Even if the only great scene in the movie is with Holmes, Byron and a stunning Amber Lynn as a virginal pop singer.

I loved when Ron said “Scum Bag Tax” in the movie. I actually used that term on a friend the other day as we talked about drugs.

A great line delivered so fantastically by JL.

Holmes made the two Italian films after his positive HIV diagnosis in the fall of 1986. The others were made prior to his diagnosis and released after the fact excluding “I Love L.A. Part One” in which Holmes narrates only. (The scene depicting Holmes and Amber Lynn in the jacuzzi from “Rubdown” featured in “L.A. Part One” was shot in 1985.) We screened and wrote reviews for 120 feature films and 80 loops for the book, and compiled the most up-to-date Holmes filmography which was a very tedious task but accurate. Holmes stopped having sex after his AIDS diagnosis which is one of the primary reasons he chose the exit route rather than prolonging his life with prescription drugs.

To clarify, the positive diagnosis came in the spring of 1986 and the Italian films were made in the fall of that year.

Thanks ladies! Sometimes I think “this post will get me kicked off the web for good” LOL

Well, I know for a fact if you had posted on the IMDB Wonderland site a few years ago there would be people telling you to post somewhere else, challenging your option of Holmes. They would have you believe Holmes was this great guy because of his contribution to porn, which of course has nothing to do with the murders. Those posters acted like Holmes should get a free pass in life because he screwed women and men in front of a motion picture camera for a pay check. I’m not judging anyone by any means but there were some sick individuals who used to hang out over there.

I haven’t told anyone yet, but many of my ex girlfriends believed I was John’s son. I don’t look like him, except for below the waist :-). The resemblances is uncanny LOL

Personally I am totally torn in half by John the wondershlong Holmes. He was a total scum bag, but his contribution to porn is very compelling. After reading Road Through Wonderland, I had the opposite reaction that I think Dawn would have wanted in regards to my opinion. The book, made her seem like a total cry baby, victim, martyr. Her dad was the biggest scum bag of all. John and Sharon treated her better than her Dad ever did. She alludes that Sharon should have said or done something. Her own sister tried to get her away from John. She was gonna do what she was gonna do and now she blames Sharon for what?? Not stopping her. Who could have??? John for taking her innocence??? She was hardly a virgin, and very easily got naked with him at 15 at the beach. Not exactly the shrinking violet she paints herself to be. She blames everyone but herself. It’s funny cause John only gives her his backwash of pot and freebase. But she tries to paint it romantically. She called it shotgunning his exhale of pot. Clearly he did not give two shits about her. But that is more than I can say for her dad. I did enjoy the book. It was a great read.

I need to read ALL of her book. You make some great observations baby. It’s hard for me to believe the outrageous scenarios, the drugs etc. At that stage, i see her addiction being very strong just as big as Holnes

Holmes contribution to porn may have been substantial but it has absolute nothing to do with his involvement in the murders, there is no coloration. Dawn at some point should take some responsibility for what happened to her but not when she was 15 yo kid. Remember when you are 15, you think you know everything. Holmes knew that and preyed on her.
Bonnie Brae 9:10 pm on April 23, 2013 Permalink |
I totally respect your opinion. Yes he was almost 40. She was 15. So yes, by law he was a predator.
My husband and I totally disagree on this point as will you and I. In my opinion, she was a very worldly 15. Girls used to get married at 13 and in some countries still do. If you read her book (sounds like you did), her life improved when Sharon and John entered the equation. It was only after he got hooked on coke that everything went down hill and he started beating her and in my opinion, beating a girl at any age is bad. When they met she was almost 16. So after a little more than 2 years she was legal. And what is her excuse for not leaving him then? And as previously mentioned her sister continually tried to pry them apart. Dawn was gonna do what Dawn was gonna do.
It also sounds like she tries to blame the Sharon the night she was almost murdered. She insinuates that Sharon may have been there but not answering the door. As if to say that it was Sharon fault she had to take a ride from a hitchhiker at 1 or 2am. Cause hitchhiking is not self destructive at all.
Then the story about John tearing up her vegetable garden. It sounds like she is a little mad that Sharon does not console her, when clearly Sharon is distancing herself from a druggie. But Dawn does not go into much detail about her own drug use.
After I read that book, I liked and respected Sharon so much.
And I enjoyed reading it. But her coping mechanism is to put the blame on everyone else.
John W 7:10 pm on April 24, 2013 Permalink
What did John do to her veggie garden? Please elaborate baby!
Bonnie Brae 9:52 am on April 26, 2013 Permalink
Dawn came home from work and John had torn up her vegetable garden. She falls to the ground in the courtyard sobbing, then paints this weird scene of Sharon coming out to have a cigarette, but being caught off guard and not showing any sympathy. What I surmised, was that Sharon was tolerating John and Dawns drug use, but certainly not embracing it or either one of them while they were in the grips of it. Dawn paints herself here, again, to be the victim, and is upset that Sharon does not do more for her. But Dawn is very comfortable in the role of victim.
John 9:59 am on April 26, 2013 Permalink
Why did he destroy the garden? I need to read her book.
Bonnie Brae 10:02 am on April 26, 2013 Permalink
Cause the guys a base head. What did ya expect Ronnie? ha ha I think just a drug fueled rage.
Hrod 11:37 pm on April 23, 2013 Permalink |
At 15, I think Dawn was more mature than John.

I could not agree more!
John 12:50 pm on April 24, 2013 Permalink |
Yes, teenage girls are going to do what they want. Dawn had her mother to fall back on, but she wanted to be with Holmes. My sisters were absolutely crazy at that age, and there was no stopping them when it came to some boy they liked. Chicks on a mission, bro! LOL

Its a good thing Chris Hanson of NBC wasn’t on the job back in 1976. Can you imagine Holmes trying to convince Hanson he’s really Johnny Wadd. Schillers dad needed his ass kicked. You never leave your 15 yo daughter with a porn star.

The erotic adventures of Dickman and Throbbin is an all time classic. I watched a few of his films on redtube. The work he did after the murders in the 80s reveal a haggard, wretched, murderous soul. He shined in the Wadd movies, then just sort of slid down hill.
John W 7:14 pm on April 24, 2013 Permalink |
Dickman and Throbbin!! No way the Golden Globes pass that film up! The director of that film was the next Martin Scorsese!!

Yes, Bonnie… Good call. John Holmes post Wonderland/post murder trial pornos are eerie, scary even. If I was a relative of Susan Launius, Ron, Joy, Billy or Barbara, then I would have hunted Holmes and Nash down!!
Bonnie Brae 10:04 am on April 26, 2013 Permalink |
Or better yet, Billy and Joy, Ronnie and Butterfly should Haunt their asses down.
localarts 9:43 pm on April 26, 2013 Permalink |
Holmes yes but Nash is another story. You simply don’t fuck with these kind of people and expect to live period. There is some thread of truth about the 40 acres of desert property where Nash buried bodies. As far as bad guys go, Ed was the real deal. Make no mistake about it.

The post wonderland murder films John did he did not look rough in all of them mainly the latter one’s he looked horrendous say 1985-86 right at the end. Apparently after time in jail he kicked the drug’s and drink for about two year’s 82-84 and you can see that in film’s from that period he look’s far healthier then films later!
As far as I can gather he relapsed late 84 early 85 and totally went of the rail’s for the a bit like a lot of addict’s probably started prostituting himself again and that’s how he probably got HIV by 86! He had been prostituting himself on and off since the late 60s to men and women! He also was very heavily involved in the swinging scene men would pay him to sleep with there wives.
Apparently Hugh Hefner paid him to sleep with play bunnies and escort at the playboy mansion in the late 70s as he liked to watch women and let’s say very large men. Holmes whatever your view on him lived one crazy life interesting in a very dark way!
