Friday, July 3, 1981 – The Landlady Ponders What To Do
Note: Thanks again to Ed for sharing. Great finds! There are two Wonderland articles on this newspaper page below, FYI. Don’t miss one of ’em!

As the police packed up to leave, a woman named Rachel Rybicki sat on a retaining wall beneath a shade tree down the block…
“The police said they’re going to hold up the home another two, three days to investigate, then I can have it back” Rachel said.
“What are you going to do then?” someone asked.
“I don’t know. And I don’t know who’s going to go in there and clean it up, but I’m not.”
A neighbor… an unnamed rock star or music industry guy was also interviewed, as he stayed up late drinking coffee at midnight, afraid to go to sleep.
Also, a desk or TV stand is so caked with blood that the box of nails on top did not slide off as the police evidence truck hauled it away. Also, we get another picture of Joy’s car and much more.

Thank you for sharing. Some questions in my mind are who got Joy into drugs? What was her life before all that mess? Where was her father’s liquor store that she sometimes worked? I wonder what Billy did for a job prior to his Wonderland career? Is Joy’s ex husband still around? Her daughters? Who’s motorcycle was in front of the house? Who’s little dodge pick up is shown in the crime scene video? I know, I know, just things I’m kind of curious about. 🙂

Yes, I know. So many questions… but at least now we now she was a pretty blonde who “dressed casually”… what a strange thing to lump in there- Ha! I think I read once that Billy did construction or was a crane operator in the 70s. We will find out eventually. At least we are here now to find out. Sadly, background check info on Billy and Ron is limited since they died so long ago. Tracy McCourt and Nash on the other hand….!!!

Very nice John. Does anybody else realize that is the one and only Tom Lange standing there peering at Joy’s car? Those are good questions Jenn. Joy’s daughters Marla and Michelle are still around I presume. No idea where Joy’s dad operated his liquor store. The story goes that Joy was married to some high profile attorney with the last name of Gold. very well to do.
It would appear on the surface that Joy led a typical life. Got married in her early 20’s raised two daughters ( both were grown when she was murdered ) One of the daughters worked at a record label in some capacity, I think it was Marla. This may explained the connection to Chuck Negron who knows

“The Associated Press reported the woman was conscious and had talked with detectives”.. Man, Eddie would’ve been FREAKING OUT after reading that! Great article, thx for sharing.
Jenn: I too have wondered how Joy got into drugs. Considering she was ill with cancer and would’ve been on a bunch of prescribed meds she could’ve easily gone down that slippery slope into illegal narcotics use through Billy. Wonder how long they were going out for before he moved in and how they met too?

Yes, I wonder what the families went through and who came to retrieve their belongings and stuff. How terrible. Paul Revere & Co. lived at Wonderland for quite a while…5 years or more… as they tried to make a living in the 1970s after their 60s heyday… and eventually broke up I guess. I need to read more on them.

Here’s a wiki article about Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere and the Raiders. (Mark was lead singer and songwriter for PRatR. The front man, if you will….)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Lindsay
It talks about his meeting and forming a business relationship with Doris Day’s son, Terry Melcher. Melcher had Mark live with him at his house with his girlfriend, Candice Bergen. After Mark and Melcher moved out, Sharon Tate et. al. moved in. The rest is history. Ironically, Melcher is the one who pissed Charlie Manson off and that left a sour taste in CM’s mouth and about the property in general. In other words, his beef was at the estate and anyone who was in it when they decided to come calling. And it didn’t matter who was in it when they came calling. They were all gonna die. His beef was at the entire establishment. (According to Charlie, It woulda been a boon if Melcher was there) but, sadly, whomever was at Cielo that night was gonna pay for what Melcher did, simply put. Mark and Terry’s departure was well timed, indeed, since Tate/Polanski were there a mere three months before the family came a calling.
So, he moves to Wonderland…not of the same caliber as Cielo and not much is heard from them (according to their discography) during those years. He made an album in ’80 entitled, “Shogun Assassin”. All things considered, that’s a pretty creepy title…
But, alas,…all’s well that ends well….Mark Lindsay in 2011 doing the song we all know and love…:

I can’t even imagine the clean up and removal of personal effects. That in itself must have been a horrible horrible nightmare….
