Bonnie & Clyde Death Site
I stopped by here today. Very isolated spot, the stone marker gets shot at, chipped at by vandals or fans. The bronze monument plaque has been stolen more than once.

Bonnie and Clyde were murdered in an ambush. Hey, I am not complaining about that, because they were brutally violent criminals who had snuffed something like 9 cops during their crime spree. Bonnie and Clyde were the real deal, the OG’s of their day.
Nevertheless, their having been gunned down in an ambush/trap with immense overkill is hardly something to be erecting a celebratory marker for the cops involved.

I think the monuments are a reflection of their infamous notoriety. The cops brought out the big guns for those two…. Browning Automatics!

Indeed, and a fitting choice of weapon. Bonnie and Clyde were also partial to the BAR.

Yeah the ambush thing sux. Its something that was used alot in those days. Dillinger was ambushed the same way. Actually even worse. The feds never even told the local cops he was in town. Why? Because they planned to kill him all along. I mean damn! Shot him in the back. Thats a bitch move

Everyone must remember that cops of that era were not trained as they are today. Imagine your father simply grabbing his gun & his friends and trying to put the cuffs on John Gotti or some other murderous person. Your dad likely wouldn’t be coming home. The cops did their jobs and stopped the two violent criminals in the only way they knew how.
There was an interesting documentary on this case recently in which the decedents of B&C were interviewed. Neither family member blamed the cops & I recall one comment was that B&C were “NOT living a glorified life but a life he wouldn’t want to have to live…. hiding every moment, living out of their car, sleeping outside….”

Hey John,
You’re doing what I’d Iike to do and you’re blogging about it. Interesting. I was going to stop by this
monument a couple of years ago but my trip timing didn’t allow for it.
I’ve also visited infamous sites as you do…. for example…. along with a friend, I visited the property of
the infamous Sharon Tate mass murder house (Charles Manson) in L.A. before it was bulldozed and rebuilt. I sat on the hill behind it and observed the exterior grounds where some of the deaths happened (A.Folger) and the tremendous view of downtown L.A. that the property owner / residents had. A relative of mine worked near that location and told me her coworkers who lived nearby could hear the screaming & phoned police but due to canyon echoes… could not identify where the screams were coming from.

For those of you that don’t like to read, Wondery has the whole Wonderland saga on audio podcast. I must say, it’s pretty good. Some of the narration made me feel as though I was standing in Eddie’s sunken living room watching the robbery go down. The description of Joy Miler’s injuries are chilling! Joy did not deserve to die lie this. Neither did Barbara. Here’s the link: https://wondery.com/shows/wonderland-murders/

I forgot to mention, there’s also a great interview with Lange & Souza.

That is a great podcast, localarts. They keep the story straight. The interview w Tom and Bob rocks also.
I have been busy tracking down the surviving Launius family

Seems like everyone involved with Wonderland had a very negative opinion of Holmes as a person, no big surprise there. Good luck getting anyone from the Launius family to open up. Maybe Rick? I think I mentioned a long time ago that one of the papers interviewed him right after the murders, can’t remember which one. If memory serves; Rick said the last time he saw Ronnie was in January or February “81 and Ronnie appeared to be very sick. Dope sick? Agent orange sick? Who know’s… I think he also said he didn’t see much of Ronnie after his release from prison. I think he said Ronnie was transferred to some local detention center in LA before he was released in “78. Wish I knew where that article was.
Anyway, it’s 2019 and this blog marches on as it should!
