BYOL – you are in f-in sane!
I wonder if that house had air conditioning? There were box fans in each bedroom and Ronnie was roasting, so I doubt it. I visited Cali once in August to see a friend. There was a heat wave, he didn’t have A/C and I wanted to get a motel room. Sweat ya later!!
I would never be able to live there. They did fix it up pretty nice but it’s just too dark of a history.
I would. I would love it. I don’t think places are haunted so I would live there in a minute. If I was by myself, I would sleep in Launius’ room. With the wife, we’d be upstairs. More room. I would watch static on channel three all night and then turn on the ipod, hook up the cables and watch Wonderland off the pod. LOL…or the crime scene vids
I think it would be cool to stay a night or two. I do believe places can be haunted and I am totally fascinated. I lived in a haunted house for about a year. Nobody told me until AFTER I bought it that 3 people died there. I am a psychic/medium so I started “feeling” a presence right away. I also almost died in the house. Long story. It’s a trip. Anyway, I’m curious. I would imagine that Joy’s landlady who owned the house at that time would have wanted to sell the house. I am curious to know if and when she did sell, for how much, and how many times it has been bought and sold since then. I think it would be cool to turn it into a museum of sorts.
Yeah I don’t care if they are haunted either, as long as I have my gat… And a necklace of garlic bulbs. However, if ghosts are real, the last ghost I need to see is 5’6″ Billy in his white jeans telling me “the guns or the money in 2 days!”
Lol
The angle would be that you would have to try to sell it to someone born after the mid-80’s who wasn’t aware or taught what had happened in the place. I was born in 1973 and never knew about Jonestown until I was almost 20, probably because of not understanding news reports and my parents had to hide scary things from me as a kid,
That certainly makes sense. As far as Jonestown, same thing for me. I am 1 year older and I wasn’t aware of it until I saw a documentary. And you can’t rely on neighbors to tell the truth because nobody told me anything about the house I bought.
Yes, I could see 20 or 30-somethings buying it and not knowing or giving a damn about the home’s history. We live in an era where many younger people didn’t know Titanic was a true event and these babies call Boondock Saints the greatest movie ever made. Fuck that dumb movie LOL. I know a girl who has a Boondocks tattoo! Get Real !!
If I were to sleep over there, my girlfriend and I would reside in Joy’s room where we would eat peaches and cottage cheese and I would have my white jeans on, no shirt of course.
I wouldn’t eat peaches and cottage cheese on my best day, John. I would order up some fish and chips with malt vinegar and pad around the house in sweats. Peaches and cottage cheese…please. No one made a food run that night. That’s obvious. They probably stole it from Launius’ wife. LOL. It was probably marked, “Please don’t eat”….being the thieves that they are, it was fair game, man. LOL
good call! 😉
If, say, I could plop down 3K for a months rent for that place,…simply to stay there for thirty days, I would. I would get the 3K, take the wife and just hang out in Laurel Canyon. I would get a vacation extentsion at work and just hole up in wonderland for 30 days. Watch the movie once a day, lollygag on the veranda and listen to 3 dog night. I would walk around saying, “What the f***! Did all of Indo-China dry up?! It’s like a desert out there!”…all the while sporting a suit jacket with no shirt and sunglasses. That’s what I would do.
I did actually stay at Lizzie Borden’s house a few years ago. It’s a bed and breakfast. In the room where she killed the step mother, we watched the Lizzie Borden A&E Biography and then watched the Legend Of Lizzie Borden with Elizabeth Montgomery. Happy Days….happy days…LOL

Wow! Bonnie you are AWESOME!!! Is the store still open?? I have always always always wanted to go to CA. I would even consider moving there but I don’t see anything in my price range. I love the pictures you share!! Thank you!!!

Store is still open. There is no A/C so I don’t recommend buying candy bars. Bottle water, beer, anything canned is fine… and there is a deli. I will take pics inside the store for my next assignment. The walls are filled with pictures of the store. Every March all the local residents are invited to take a group pic in front of the store. So there are pics in every size from every year dating back to the 60s.. The photos just hang randomly around the store. It looks pretty cool.

I know Cass Elliot lived for a time in the basement and Jennifer Aniston worked the register but I can’t remember much else. That store has an amazing history.
