Great shots. I wonder how many times Holmes skipped up that stairwell jonesing for a hit?…

A lot! I bet Diles was sucking wind by the time he reached the front door.

Thanks guys! Hahahahahha that’s so funny! U know what I always wonder is who in the hell opened the door. Or did they just break in. I know the gate was left opened. But who let them in? In the movie billy did but billy was up in his room so it wasn’t him.

I never realized they steps also led to the house next door, guess I didn’t pay close attention. I wonder who opened the door too, I’ve read that it was Barbara, but I thought she was asleep when struck, or so it seemed. Hmmm…another unsolved mystery!

        • localarts 6:00 pm on September 26, 2013 Permalink

Without going into a lot of detail as to why, the consensus is Deverell.

        • Bobby 8:22 am on September 28, 2013 Permalink

Considering it’s a shared stairwell it’s pretty understandable how the movers the day after the murders would’ve had a pretty clear line of sight into the house, not to mention hearing Susan’s moaning. The issues raised on this thread re: the dogs baffles me too. How did they not attack Diles and co.??

        • criticextraordinaire 8:15 am on September 29, 2013 Permalink

Bobby I always wondered about the dogs too. It’s too bad John had not left Thor there that night. Thor would have beat down the attackers, he was one bad ass dog.

If I ever win the lottery I’d like to buy 8763 and restore it to its pristine appearance in 1981. I’d then set it up as sort of a bed and breakfast. You could stay there with 3 other friends for a night. Captain Pizza would cater the food in, and there would be plenty of Johnny Wadd porno tapes to throw in the Betamax. Included in the price would be a picture of your group hanging out on the balcony. It would be one heck of a great time.

      • Tori 1:06 pm on September 27, 2013 Permalink | Reply

Yeah Barbara was struck laying on the couch. Who knows maybe she let john in and went back to the couch then that’s when the gangsters came in.

Oh man takin wonderland back to the 80s would be sweet. Rock n roll playing. With Johnny’s wadd on. Cocaine being passed. Lol ok maybe not the cocaine

        • Beth 6:27 am on September 28, 2013 Permalink

Looking at the crime photos last night, one thing that struck me is….it looks to me like Joy is laying sideways across the bed, not “in” bed but rather like she’d been up and was killed in the struggle? Anyone know, was she wearing nightclothes, or a robe? It just kind of looks like she’d been out of bed and fell the way she was found, then they ransacked the place and threw all the crap on top of her. Then Deverell was obviously out of bed and on the floor and I remember reading he had defensive wounds as if fighting back. Wondering if perhaps they heard the commotion from below and were up when the killers struck.

Then there are the dogs, that really confuses me. Am I correct that there were 2 pitbulls or something guarding the place? I think the thought is that they “knew” John so they didn’t cause a ruckus and allowed them to enter. I don’t get that. I have 2 German Shepherds and they “know” many of my friends, but if any of those friends came to my place at night, in the dark, they’d take their heads off! So this does have me wondering if someone from within the house called the dogs off or something. Ugh, wish we knew more! Damn u John Holmes for not spilling all your guts!

        • Tori 9:05 am on September 28, 2013 Permalink

Yes it seemed like joy and billy were awake and possibly knew something was going on on the first floor. If u watch the crime scene video there is hammers and tools laying on the bed as if maybe they tried to use that for protection. But I’m sure that house was probably loaded with guns so who knows. Unresolved mystery! It sucks!!!!!!!!!

Joy was wearing a gold nightgown and green and white striped robe. Her cranial wounds are nearly all on the shattered forehead. She and Billy fought for their lives.

If you are somewhat new to the blog then be sure to flip thru each post when convenient (bottom of page — “Older Posts”. There are over 300 blog posts. A
lot of stuff here. Use the Search button too but be specific and you will get better results i.e, “Joy’s nightgown” or “Ron’s first wife”.

My friend said I should just print the blog out, post by post, organize it, and that would be a book! He may be correct.

      • Beth 12:16 pm on September 28, 2013 Permalink | Reply

That’s a great idea!! You definately have enough material here for a great book, would love to see Tom Lang’s book published too. Put the screws to Nash even tighter, the dirty old fart!

Yep I’ve been reading back into the blog when I can, not sure why I find this so fascinating, maybe the unsolved mystery part of it. Seriously need to watch Wonderland again, wish it was on Netflix!

    • Beth 5:23 pm on September 30, 2013 Permalink | Reply

Ok this really sucks! I just did a search yesterday on my dvr for Wonderland and got a zero result. I turn the tv on this afternoon to put a show on for my kids and what do I see??? Freakin’ Wonderland!! Sooooo ticked! Hoping they re-run it, it was already half over and I can’t exactly watch it w/ my kids around. It’s on some channel called AXL or something?? Anyway, seriously bummed! ūüė¶

Love Street… There’s This Store Where The Creatures Meet

As we embark on a sweet, well-deserved weekend, let’s first take a drive down Love St. with Bonnie! Heck yea~

Just don’t litter out the window, you might hit a hippie. Hippie control.

    Thanks Bonnie!

The song was originally a poem written by singer¬†Jim Morrison¬†about the street in the¬†Laurel Canyon¬†section of¬†Los Angeles, California¬†where he lived with his girlfriend¬†Pamela Courson. Their address was 8021 Rothdell Trail¬†<–Click it! …¬†Morrison and Courson referred to Rothdell Trail as “Love Street” because they would sit on the balcony and watch countless¬†hippies¬†walk by.

The song is noted for Morrison’s spoken narration, which occurs in the middle of the song: “I see you live on Love Street/ There’s this store where the creatures meet/I wonder what they do in there?/Summer Sunday and a year/I guess I like it fine, so far”. The store in question was the Canyon Country Store across the street from his house. Morrison also wrote the¬†Waiting for the Sun¬†album and much of¬†The Soft Parade¬†at the residence. The house was partially damaged during a spate of arson fires on December 30, 2011; the balcony was destroyed.

Nice vid Bonnie. Laurel Canyon Cleaners & Laundry? I bet that‚Äôs where Joy took the gang’s dirty cloth’s because I don’t think I’ve ever saw a washer & dryer at 8763 if there was, they probably sold it for drugs.

      • Bobby 10:56 pm on July 19, 2013 Permalink | Reply

If they did have a washer and dryer I reckon it would’ve been in the ground level carport up against that back wall.

Awesome, once again, Bonnie! You are bringing Laurel Canyon to life for us. Thank You. Can you drive by Zappa’s place next? I would love to see that if it’s still there….and like how close it is to Wonderland? You are the best. I have been thinking of a trip to California since the early 80’s. Your vids are prompting me to do it finally. Just awesome. Thanks

Scabies are you referring to the legendary log cabin house on 2401 Laurel Canyon Blvd? Sadly it burned down on Halloween morning 1981. Legend has it that a year or so before the infamous murders took place, some members of the Manson family also lived in the cabin for a few months until Frank Zappa kicked them out during a New Year’s Eve party.
Zappa moved to 7881 Woodrow Wilson Drive with his family and lived there until his death in 1993. I believe his wife Gail still lives there.

that’s right Bobby!!! but I pass the empty lot in both wonderland vids.
When I turn on Lookout from Dona Lola – it was on that corner.

        • scabiesoftherat 11:42 pm on July 20, 2013 Permalink

Bummer!! (I really have to get up to date on this stuff….) I will watch for that when I look at the vid again, Bonnie. Thanks! At least I will know where it was at!

        • Bonnie Brae 9:27 am on July 22, 2013 Permalink

I’m glad you brought it up because I always forget. But I remember wanting to point out where Zappas old cabin was. You know it was not torn down until after 97, it remained condemned and just falling apart for quite a long time.
