Nostalgic Disco Site Has Rare "Club Odyssey" Photos

For more info, photos and entertaining stories from club goers and employees go to the site.

FYI – There is a Chris Cox sighting below.  He’s a semi-famous nightclub guy who knew Eddie Nash back in those days. Chris is also quoted in a few of the classic articles over the years regarding Wonderland, Thorson, Holmes and Ed Nash. It’s been said that Cox introduced Holmes to Nash. I hope to interview Chris soon.

The Back-story For Today’s Image Gallery:

These photos were taken at a 1979 gay pride parade. Club Odyssey had their own float.

Ron Howard filmed a scene for his early 80’s movie, Night Shift, at Club Odyssey. It starred Henry Winkler (below) and Michael Keaton. A cult classic.

Go to the DiscoMusic Odyssey page for more pics, great stories and remembrances of club-goers and insiders.

Hey can you give me any information about the murder of a Lawrence Benjamin aka “L.B.” Who was a chickenhawk that would frequent the odyssey? He was murdered by his “boy” doug white? I can find zero online besides the barest facts. Thanks!

Dona Lola Living Room Was Like Siberia

Eddie’s house was a depressing place, as you will read below. I would love to have been a fly on the wall when that living room was crowded with L.A.’s finest dopers. It sure would be nice to see some photos of the interior of Dona Lola, at least the living room. I have tried most of those real estate / realtor web sites with no luck, so far. The house has not been on the market for several years.

After the murders, when Eddie was arrested and Greg shot it out with the cops, these other characters were at the house and also initially arrested. My guess is two young strippers and a middle aged buddy of Ed’s? Carrie and Jamie were not charged and later released.

There were no injuries as a result of that gunfire, investigators said. Also arrested were Carrie O’Loughlan, 20; Amnon Bachahiam, 48; Jamie McGuan, 20.

    –L.A. Times, July 11, 1981.

Bing Maps gives a clearer shot of the back and side of the house than Google Earth. For instance, there was one, maybe two windows to contend with or crouch under when the gang traversed the side yard, on their way to the rear sliding glass door.

From this rotated view, you can see Eddie’s old pool a bit better. If Greg ever jumped in off of that wall, then he would have flooded the valley.

Is that Greg I see taking a morning float with his cup of Mai Tai?

    CHRIS COX:

There was me and my group, and then there was Eddie Nash and his group, centered around Nash’s house in the Hollywood Hills on Dona Lola Drive. His place was a split-level house with a big living room area that was like the waiting room. And people would come by to see Eddie, who was usually in the bedroom. It was like getting an audience with the Pope—you know, you had to wait your turn. The living room was like Siberia; everybody looked very dejected out there. But a chosen few got to go in right away, no waiting. And I was one of them. But then in 1980 I kind of got put out to pasture, after I introduced
John to Eddie Nash. When I first brought John over to Nash’s, it was like bringing over a celebrity. There were lots of girls there, and they were pretty much bumping into each other to get to John. He was well liked up there. He was a conversation piece. John and Ed hit it off very well, and John started spending all his time over at Eddie’s. My feelings weren’t really hurt. I understood what was going on: John was doing what he had to do to get his own supply.

Ha, I like how Nash always contested that his stash of drugs was just for personal use. Sure enough he had a ridiculously huge habit but c’mon!

I remember reading that Eddie Nash’s place on Dona Lola had a sunken livingroom.

So in that case it was almost a perfect blend of Rahad Jackson’s living room in “Boogie Nights” and what we saw in “Wonderland”. According to Mike Sager’s Rolling Stone piece Nash would ask his guests if they wanted to “play baseball” (have a toke on his freebase pipe).. it was cool to see PT Anderson carried this through into his film with Rahad asking the same thing of Dirk Diggler and co. A nice touch! 🙂

I’d bet money that Carrie and Jamie either worked at the Kit Kat Club or Nash’s buddy and sometimes buisness partner Anthony Mudarris Body Shop

Jamie died in 1986, but I’m not sure how. Anybody know more about her or the other women who were there at this party?

My goodness, these girls lived fast and died young. Ed and Amnon are still alive though, despite the odds. Thanks for the info!

I’m always curious about the players and how they’re connected. I suspect that those around Nash didn’t all lead the longest, healthiest lives, but I also don’t expect them to die young either. Did you ever find out if Helen Hennessy ever partied with Nash?

No, I never did. Not sure of all the places she lived, but stories seem to center around Carlsbad/Oceanside (from emails I’ve rec’d from folks)
